When you repeat affirmations, you are effectively training your brain to believe in positive statements. This blog post will give you some examples of affirmations that you can use to improve your life. So, read on and start making some positive changes in your life today!
I'm so grateful to have discovered the power of affirmations when I was 18. My then flatmate, work colleague, and best friend introduced me to personal development, and it changed my life for the better.
Now I use affirmations every day to challenge negative thoughts, boost my self-esteem, and promote positive changes in my life.
If you frequently find yourself getting caught up in negative self-talk, positive affirmations can be used to combat these often subconscious patterns and replace them with more positive narratives.
It's a scientific fact that our brains believe and prove us to be right. If you're stuck in a negative mindset, your brain will look for evidence to support that story. However, if you focus on the positive, your brain will do the same. This is why I believe that if you focus on the good, you'll create more good in your life.
At 18, I created my first affirmation. I was in a relationship with someone who liked to drive fast, I didn't feel confident at work and I didn't feel safe in myself. By creating an affirmation, I was able to begin work on feeling safer in all areas of my life.

If you like this affirmation, couple it with some deep breathing and you’re on your way to creating a centered, calm outlook within yourself. This creates self-love, positivity and confidence!
1. Affirmations are most effective when they're stated in the present tense. For example, "I am calm." This is because our brains are only designed to respond optimally to positive affirmations in the present tense. So, be sure to avoid using past or future tenses in your affirmations. If you come across affirmations that say things like "I will…," "I used to…," or "I'm going to…," then these are NOT affirmations.
2. Use positive words only. “Don’t,” “can’t,” or “won’t” carry negative connotations, so it's best to avoid them. For example, change “I won’t worry” to “I am free from worry.” Negatively-charged words require more mental effort to process and can cloud the meaning of your message.
3. When crafting your positive affirmations, use confident language as if the statement were already true. Words like “might” and “could” weaken the statement, whereas words like “am” and “do” make it stronger. For example, “I could be calm in every situation” is not as effective as “I am calm in every situation.”
